The first Cabinet meeting of the year has begun: What is on the agenda?

The closed-door Cabinet meeting convened at 14:30 under the chairmanship of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Meeting again after an approximately 1.5-month break, the agenda for the first Cabinet meeting of 2024 will include additional raises for retiree pensions and the fight against terrorism.

CONCERNS MILLIONS OF RETIREES

Millions of SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees have their eyes on news of an additional raise from the government.

The work carried out by the relevant ministries under the coordination of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz regarding the regulation that also includes the lowest pension amount will be on the agenda at the Cabinet meeting.

The regulation, which is planned to be submitted to Parliament soon, is expected to be finalized.

INFLATION AND PRICE HIKES

Additional steps to be taken in the fight against inflation and exorbitant prices will also be discussed in the Cabinet.

The impact of the Central Bank's monetary tightening steps on the markets and the latest status of reserves will be evaluated.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

Another agenda item of the meeting is Turkey's counter-terrorism operations.

In this context, the decisions that emerged from the security summit in Istanbul will also be discussed in the Cabinet.

Ongoing operations against the terrorist organization PKK in northern Syria and Iraq, as well as within the country, will be addressed.

Israel's attacks on Palestine, Turkey's diplomatic initiatives to ensure a ceasefire in Gaza, and the tension in the Red Sea will also be on the table at the Cabinet meeting.

Erdoğan will make a statement following the meeting.
