The first gesture of the new opening process: A DEM Party member is joining the HSK

The first fruit of the new opening process, which began with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli shaking hands with DEM Party deputies at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) and his call regarding terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, and which the People's Alliance calls a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' has emerged.

Between May 15 and June 4, three separate elections will be held in the TBMM for the Speaker of the Parliament, the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK), and the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK). According to a report by Veli Toprak from Sözcü, negotiations were held between the AKP and the DEM Party regarding HSK membership, and an agreement was reached.

5 MEMBERS WILL BE ELECTED

Five members will be elected to the 13-member HSK, which is chaired by the Minister of Justice, within the TBMM during the month of May. The DEM Party was also asked to nominate a lawyer. Thus, for the first time, a person from the DEM Party quota will serve on the 13-member HSK. The TBMM Joint Committee on Constitution and Justice will reduce the number of applicants to 15 at its meeting on Tuesday, May 6, and send them to the General Assembly. Five members will be elected from among them in the General Assembly. The election will require 400 votes in the first round and 360 votes in the second round. In the HSK, excluding the Minister of Justice and the Deputy Minister, 7 members are elected by the TBMM and 4 by the President.

The fact that the DEM Party would be given a quota in the HSK was first brought to the agenda by 12punto columnist Müyesser Yıldız in her article titled "Is the DEM becoming a partner to the government and the state?" on April 2.
