The name behind Kavala's 'retrial' petition is an AKP deputy: The study on Erdoğan's desk

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi wrote an article in today's column focusing on the historic Erdoğan-Özel meeting.

Selvi stated, "Now it is the turn of Osman Kavala and the Gezi prisoners. In the first meeting, Özgür Özel showed President Erdoğan a photo of Vera, the daughter of Gezi prisoner Tayfun Kahraman, and said, 'Vera is growing up while her father is in prison.'"

Recalling that a "reversal in the interest of the law" has been requested in the Kavala file, Selvi said, "Meanwhile, an important development took place before the Erdoğan-Özgür Özel meeting. Upon the application made by Osman Kavala's lawyer Hilal Zengin for a 'reversal in the interest of the law,' the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court sent the Osman Kavala file to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Ministry Correspondence Bureau to be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice General Directorate of Criminal Affairs. Thus, the request for reversal in the interest of the law regarding Osman Kavala will be examined by the Ministry of Justice."

THE AKP NAME BEHIND THE KAVALA FILE

Selvi also stated that former AKP deputy Murteza Zengin is behind the Kavala file, adding, "By the way, the work regarding the retrial request for Osman Kavala began 1 year ago. The real name behind the work carried out by lawyer Hilal Zengin is lawyer Murteza Zengin. Murteza Zengin, who is a constitutional lawyer, served as an Istanbul deputy for the 26th term from the AK Party. Lawyer Murteza Zengin, who completed his doctorate on 'presidential treason,' teaches constitutional and criminal law at various universities."

"I learned that the Kavala file was also shared with President Erdoğan a short time ago," said Selvi, adding the view that "a step to be taken in the Kavala file will serve to soften Turkey-European Commission relations."

AYŞE ATEŞ QUESTION TO MHP

Reminding that Erdoğan will meet with Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, Selvi said the following:

"President Erdoğan made the real surprise before the Özgür Özel meeting. It was announced that Erdoğan will meet with Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş. It is said that the meeting will take place within a few days. They will likely meet on Wednesday. If a meeting cannot be arranged, they will meet after his Spain-Italy trip. So, will this meeting harm the People's Alliance? To put it more clearly, will the MHP be uncomfortable with this meeting?

I am interested in the humanitarian dimension of the incident. There is a grieving wife and two daughters. I bow with respect before Ayşe Ateş's struggle."
