The 'normalization' process in politics: CHP's 'expectations from Erdoğan' leaked from behind the scenes!

Following the March 31 Local Elections, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Making a statement after the meeting held at the AKP Headquarters, Erdoğan gave a message of a 'softening period' in politics and said that he would pay a return visit to the CHP.

WHEN WILL ERDOĞAN VISIT ÖZEL?

The CHP Party Assembly met yesterday (May 27) under the chairmanship of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. The meeting addressed the discussion Özel held with Erdoğan and the subsequent process.

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün, the date of Erdoğan's return visit to the CHP was discussed at the meeting. Party staff conveyed that Özel told them, "The visit could take place before the holiday."

CHP STAFF EXPECT CONCRETE STEPS FROM ERDOĞAN

Stating that they expect concrete steps regarding the issues discussed in the first meeting between CHP leader Özel and Erdoğan, party members assessed, "It was positive that a step was taken regarding the imprisoned commanders after the first meeting. However, there were also negative steps such as the Kobani Case and interventions in the judiciary. Our agenda still includes issues such as non-compliance with the Constitution, the problems of retirees, the minimum wage, and the cost of living. No steps have been taken yet on issues such as the Gezi prisoners."

Noting that they expect Erdoğan to take a concrete step after the second meeting, CHP members commented, "It is an ambitious move for Erdoğan, who accused us of terrorism during the election period, to now come to our headquarters. Our goal is to reduce polarization, and this visit is positive in that respect."

CONTACT WITH THE CABINET

On the other hand, it was stated that members of the CHP's shadow cabinet are in contact with ministers in Erdoğan's cabinet. Within the scope of assignments revealing that contacts within the normalization process are not limited to the leadership level, it was noted that Gökan Zeybek met with Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki, and İlhan Uzgel met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan. It was also stated that CHP Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan is expected to meet with Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya regarding recent developments, primarily the crisis within the police force.
