They protested Erdoğan: Up to 3 years in prison requested for 9 people

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech at the TRT World Forum was interrupted by 9 people protesting trade with Israel; the indictment prepared against them has been accepted by the Istanbul 8th Criminal Court of First Instance. The suspects are accused of "acting in an organized manner" and "engaging in an illegal act."

DEMAND FOR UP TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON 

The indictment states that an organized action plan was made during the protest and that President Erdoğan was targeted. A prison sentence ranging from six months to three years has been requested for the suspects under the Turkish Penal Code.

ACCUSATION OF ILLEGAL ACT 

The protest action was defined as an illegal act in the indictment. The prosecution argued that the defendants aimed to send a message targeting President Erdoğan and that this was unlawful.

The defendants will appear in court in the coming days to defend themselves.  

WHAT HAPPENED?

AKP Chairman and President Tayyip Erdoğan was protested during his speech at the TRT World Forum at the Istanbul Congress Center. 

While Erdoğan was speaking about Israel's attacks on Gaza, a person in the hall reacted to Erdoğan by saying, "Ships are carrying bombs to Gaza."

In response to the protester, Erdoğan said, "My child, do not be the tongue and mouth of the Zionists here. No matter how much you try to provoke this place, you will not get results. The Zionists in the world know very well where Tayyip Erdoğan stands, but you still haven't understood."

Security personnel intervened by covering the protester's mouth.
