They were going to pay 180,000 TL: Another penalty is coming for those who get out of their vehicles in traffic!

Deliberations on the new Highway Traffic Law Proposal, which increases the severity of sanctions against drivers who disregard traffic rules, are continuing in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Within the scope of the regulation, of which the first 17 articles have been approved, it is on the agenda to impose an administrative fine of 180,000 lira on drivers who get out of their vehicles to pose a threat or who show aggression by intentionally following another vehicle. Furthermore, if these actions are detected, the relevant drivers' licenses will be confiscated for 60 days, and their vehicles may be banned from traffic for 30 days.

The heavy sanctions aim to prevent incidents of violence in traffic. With the new regulation, those who drive noisy vehicles will also pay a fine of 16,000 lira. Those who cause accidents by running red lights will have their licenses revoked for more than two months and will be required to undergo a psychotechnical evaluation before they are returned.

Drivers using mobile phones while driving will be fined 5,000 TL. A fine of 46,000 TL is envisaged for drivers who race in traffic and endanger public safety; these individuals' licenses will be suspended for 2 years. For drivers who leave the scene of a serious accident without any necessity, a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years is on the agenda.

Deterrent penalties are also planned for drivers who intentionally make their license plates unreadable. These drivers will be fined 140,000 TL and their vehicles will be temporarily banned from traffic. In addition, drivers who significantly exceed urban speed limits will lose their licenses for 30, 60, or 90 days, depending on the level of the violation.

Those who do not yield to ambulances, fire trucks, and other emergency service vehicles that have the right of way in traffic, as well as drivers found not to have stopped, will face a fine of 46,000 TL and a 30-day license suspension. In addition to these, those who do not yield to other vehicles with the right of way will face an administrative fine of 15,000 TL. Furthermore, the use of tachographs and taximeters will be made mandatory for commercial vehicles and public transport vehicles.

A new proposal regarding maternity leave will also be submitted to Parliament in the coming days. Accordingly, the current 16-week maternity leave for working mothers will be increased to 24 weeks. The 5-day leave granted to fathers will be increased to 10 days, equalizing it with the practice for civil servants.

With the new law, significant changes are on the way in both traffic and working life. Following the deliberations to be held in the General Assembly of Parliament, the regulations are expected to come into force soon.
