Thin rebar used! Şişli's 'Kanal İstanbul' sealed

Şişli Municipality teams identified irregularities during an inspection of the 24,000-square-meter reserve building area, often referred to as "Şişli's Kanal İstanbul," and subsequently sealed the construction site. Municipal technical and municipal police teams conducted inspections at the site, located at Merkez Neighborhood, block 10619, parcel 3, during the morning hours.

DEVIATION FROM THE PROJECT

During the inspection, the teams determined that work was being carried out in violation of the project plans. They found that some rebar, which should have been 12 millimeters in diameter according to the project, was instead 10 millimeters, and that shoring piles had been altered during implementation, deviating from the approved plans. After filing a report and halting the work, the teams placed a seal on the gate at the entrance of the construction site. Furthermore, the inspections revealed that the building inspection firm had failed to intervene in any of the "non-compliant" actions. On the other hand, municipal teams had previously issued a "stop-work" order on April 8, 2024, due to deficiencies at the site, requesting the approved and wet-signed project documents from the relevant firm. Work at the construction site had resumed after the firm submitted the ministry-approved project to the municipality.

RESERVE AREA DECLARED WITH FORMER MINISTER'S SIGNATURE

Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan announced to the public in a press statement on March 19, 2024, before the elections, that the 24,000-square-meter area had been declared a reserve building area using Law No. 6306, with the signature of the then-Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Murat Kurum.
