Journalist İsmail Arı, who was being held in custody on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information" and "violation of confidentiality," was released on June 5.

After spending 75 days in detention, Arı made striking statements to his colleague Timur Soykan on Birgün TV following his release.

On Arı's agenda was Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the CHP chairmanship via a decision of absolute nullity.

Explaining that Kılıçdaroğlu visited him in prison before the absolute nullity decision, Arı shared the details of that meeting for the first time.

Arı said the following:

“Normally, everyone who came would have been seated before me; this time, I was the one waiting.

I was looking to see who would come from afar, and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu turned the corner and arrived, and I was very surprised.

Because I had never had a conversation with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu before.

The first half hour was already about my file, my detention process, and prison conditions.

I asked about the absolute nullity issue.

‘I think the absolute nullity decision is 50-50. I sincerely think this.

I am not sending my lawyer to court anyway, because there is a lot of gossip and such, but I will accept the absolute nullity,’ he said.

‘How, what will happen then?’ I asked.

‘We will sit down and talk with Mr. Özgür as well. I will talk to him, we need to do this, I will accept it, I will become the CHP chairman,’ he said.

‘Well, there will be a lot of reaction, a lot of objection during this process,’ I said.

After that, he said very harsh words about the names in his own party. He made very harsh accusations.

In fact, I ran back to the ward after that meeting so I wouldn't forget, and the guard was surprised. I wanted to take notes of his sentences exactly; we didn't have paper and pen with us at the time.

He thinks the convention was bought with money. He accuses the names he repeatedly made members of parliament and mayors of theft.

And in fact, his exact words: ‘Thieves who bought the convention with money cannot run this party or the country. That is why I will accept it,’ he says.

Then he gave examples, he accused many names of immorality again.

He gave various examples, ‘You know the Uşak issue,’ he said,

‘You must be seeing this disgrace here too… Bursa is a different matter,’ he said. He gave examples of various municipal operations like this, he asked, that is.

‘Well, you have been criticizing very harshly for 2 years, you are in a state of criticism that you have not seen or experienced in your political life,’ I said.

He laughed there, there was even a bit of a chuckle in that laugh.

‘I don't look at it, I don't care,’ he said.

‘What do you mean?’ I said. ‘I don't read social media or anything,’ he said.

‘I don't read these news stories either. Believe me, I haven't looked at them for two years.

Because I don't look at them, I don't see them, and because I don't see them, I don't know,’ he said.”
