Threat against Halk TV reporter Umut Taştan at the scene of the Hakan Tosun murder

The investigation into the death of journalist Hakan Tosun, who was beaten and murdered by a group in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy neighborhood of Esenyurt, Istanbul, on October 11, is ongoing. Halk TV reporter Umut Taştan, who was covering the story in the area where the murder took place, announced that he had been threatened.

According to the report by halktv.com.tr; Taştan stated that while he was trying to gather information by speaking with shopkeepers and citizens in the neighborhood where the murder occurred, relatives of the perpetrator threatened him.

"THE FATHER MADE HIS OWN ALLEGATIONS TO US"

Taştan said, "The father of the 18-year-old suspect came. He started talking to me. After he arrived, other people started to show up. They were watching our previous broadcast on their phones. The father made his own allegations to us. The father said, 'You don't know what kind of footage I have in my possession.' The father said they would hold a press statement in front of the courthouse with 3 thousand people."

"HE SAID THEY HAD A PREVIOUS FEUD"

Umut Taştan, who went to the scene following the Tosun murder, recounted a conversation he had with a shopkeeper as follows:

"What he conveyed to us is this; the police came twice in the morning hours. They examined the footage here. They did not take the devices. Later, the attackers' family, the family of one of the arrested individuals, came here and said, 'We need your camera,' and they took that device and left. This is a family known and recognized in this area; they work in the electrical business. They said, 'If the police come and ask again, you tell them the footage is with us.' The shop owner later went to that electrician's shop to retrieve the device. The father of the person who carried out the attack was there. He said, 'He slapped him once. That's why they took my child. We are trying to clear our names.' And he said that they had a previous feud, and that was why the perpetrator hit Hakan."
