TikTok trend destroys teenage girl's national team dreams! 'It was my sport and my dream that suffered'

In Antalya, 17-year-old Nilsu, who had achieved success through her passion for basketball and rugby, became a victim of the 'tripping' trend popular on TikTok. The teenager, who suffered a spinal fracture when her friends tripped her as a prank, was confined to bed for a month wearing a steel corset. Although Nilsu, who dreamed of joining the national rugby team, was saddened when doctors told her she could return to training in 3-4 months, she is impatient to return to the field.

Nilsu, a sports high school student living in a dormitory in Antalya's Kepez district, was subjected to her friends' prank while they were filming a TikTok trend. After a fracture was detected in her spine as a result of the tripping prank carried out by her friends, the teenager was advised to have bed rest and wear a steel corset for 1 month.

Nilsu's mother, Canan Başoğlu, stated that this incident ruined her daughter's years of athletic effort in two minutes and warned that TikTok trends could put young people's lives at risk. Başoğlu called for immediate intervention regarding TikTok trends and for young people to be taught more valuable life lessons.

Nilsu Ö. described the incident as follows: "My friends wanted to film a TikTok trend. I was preparing for an exam. I said I would go and come back quickly. I jumped and was tripped, and I stayed on the ground. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. We learned from the tomography that there was a fracture at the base of my spine. I couldn't walk at all during that process, and it's still the same now. I realize my friends didn't do it with bad intentions, but the ground where the prank was played was hard; they should have thought about that. It was my sport and my dream that suffered. I had been preparing for the national team for 1 year."
