TKH reacts to child abuse in Bağcılar: It is clear where the perpetrator gets his courage; the source of his courage is reactionary ideology

It was revealed in recent days that 60-year-old shopkeeper Metin Şenay had been sexually abusing children for over 10 years in a soundproof room in his shop in Bağcılar, Istanbul. The Communist Movement of Turkey (TKH) Bağcılar district organization held a press conference in Bağcılar regarding the child abuse incident.

"WE WILL FIGHT AGAINST THE REACTIONARY MENTALITY"

In the statement, which included the phrases, "It is clear where the perpetrator gets his courage; the source of his courage is reactionary ideology and injustice. The source of his courage is the Ensar Foundation. At a point where a minister can come out and say 'nothing will happen just once' regarding child abuse, this dark, perverse mentality begins to see its actions as a right and believes it is untouchable," it was stated, "We will fight against the reactionary mentality that gives courage to perpetrators so that we do not hear or learn about such an incident regarding our children again in Bağcılar, in our neighborhood, or anywhere in the country."

"WE OWE A BRIGHT FUTURE TO THE CHILDREN OF THIS COUNTRY"

During the protest, Barış Doğan, the Bağcılar Mayoral Candidate, made a statement on behalf of the TKH and used the following expressions:

“Dear friends, dear people of Bağcılar Yenimahalle,

We have gathered here to make our press statement regarding the child abuse that occurred in our neighborhood and has become a national issue. A shopkeeper in Yenimahalle has been periodically sexually assaulting children for 10 years, and it could not be detected. In fact, he was released in 2009 for the same crime due to lack of evidence. It is clear where the perpetrator gets his courage; the source of his courage is reactionary ideology and injustice. The source of his courage is the Ensar Foundation. At a point where a minister can come out and say 'nothing will happen just once' regarding child abuse, this dark, perverse mentality begins to see its actions as a right and believes it is untouchable. As the Communist Movement of Turkey, we are calling out from here today; we will fight against the reactionary mentality that gives courage to perpetrators so that we do not hear or learn about such an incident regarding our children again in Bağcılar, in our neighborhood, or anywhere in the country.

Dear friends, we owe a bright future to the children of this country. We owe a beautiful future to the children who have been subjected to this darkness. To pay this debt, we will raise the struggle for secularism throughout the country, starting from our neighborhood. We know that in a bright tomorrow, in a secular country, no one will dare to do this. We know, friends, that secularism is freedom. Most of all, it is the freedom of our children to walk around fearlessly in parks and on the streets as they wish.

We communists have been waging this struggle in this neighborhood, on the streets of Bağcılar, for many years, and we will continue to do so from now on. We will win for our children, we will win for our future. We will build an equal, secular country where we can walk the streets without fear by fighting together. We once again condemn this unacceptable incident that took place here. We demand that every gap that allowed the perpetrator to commit this crime for 10 years be illuminated, and that those responsible be tried along with the perpetrator.”

The organized child abuse crime that emerged in Bağcılar has outraged Turkey.

Declaring that they will not turn a blind eye to the abuse of children, the Communist Movement of Turkey district organization made a statement in Bağcılar:
