Traffic halted in Dardanelles due to oil rig transit

The Marshall Islands-flagged oil rig "Transocean Barents," which is 120 meters long, 77 meters wide, and approximately 60 meters high, and is en route from Spain to Romania, entered the strait from the south in the morning hours.

The rig, which reached the waters off the Çanakkale city center in approximately 5 hours, was escorted by the "Kurtarma-3", "Kurtarma-4", "Kurtarma-14", "Kurtarma-15", "Kurtarma-17" and "Türkeli" tugboats, as well as the "Kıyem-1" rescue boat, all belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety.

The strait, which has been closed to one-way transit ship traffic from north to south, will return to normal once the rig enters the Sea of Marmara.
