'Traffic light' model for children on social media

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş stated regarding the "social media regulation for children," "Our goal here is to introduce a limitation and a regulation, especially for platforms where foreigners can also access our children. Ultimately, our children will be able to conduct their research and access the internet."

Minister Göktaş shared a video on her social media account in which she answered questions about the planned regulation for children.

In her post, Göktaş included the following statements: "Let us state it clearly once again. We are implementing regulations that secure our children and protect our future generations. We want to establish a digital ecosystem where our children can navigate safely and move toward the future with confidence. In line with this goal, we will continue to take strategic steps and work with determination for our precious children."

"THIS IS NOT A BAN, BUT A REGULATION"

In response to the question posed in the video, "How far does the ban go? Instead of that, can't we provide education to our children?" Göktaş replied, "This is not a ban, this is a regulation. Of course, we must provide education. We must provide it to the entire society. We already have training programs for adults. Just as we provide traffic education to our children but also install traffic lights, it is the same thing. Ultimately, social media should also have a traffic light."

Responding to the question, "So, will children not be able to access the internet at all?" Göktaş noted the following:

"Of course they will access the internet. Our goal here is to introduce a limitation and a regulation, especially for platforms where foreigners can also access our children. Ultimately, our children will be able to conduct their research and access the internet. Our goal is to introduce a regulation for these companies that earn billions of dollars, especially through our children."
