Tragedy in Iğdır: 400 sheep die after falling into an irrigation canal while fleeing a bee attack
A flock of sheep being taken to the highlands in Iğdır was attacked by bees. As the animals fled in panic, they fell into an irrigation canal, resulting in the death of approximately 400 sheep and leaving 5 people injured.
In an incident that occurred on land between the villages of Hakmehmet and Ağaver in Iğdır, a flock of approximately 4,000 small livestock being taken to the highlands was attacked by bees. The flock, owned by Çetin Naral, became the target of bees while passing through an area containing numerous beehives.
PANIC AND STAMPEDE LED TO DISASTER
Panic-stricken by the bee attack, the sheep and lambs began to flee uncontrollably. The flock fell into an empty section of an irrigation canal located in the area. Due to the density and crowding, a large portion of the animals were crushed to death. According to initial reports, approximately 400 sheep have died.

INJURED TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
Five people who were exposed to the bee attack during the incident were injured. The injured were taken to Iğdır State Hospital for treatment following intervention by medical teams.
INVESTIGATION AND DAMAGE ASSESSMENT TO BE CONDUCTED
While security measures were taken by gendarmerie teams in the area, an investigation into the incident has been launched. It was learned that teams from the Iğdır Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) will conduct damage assessment work in the region.
Speaking after the incident, İsmail Naral stated that the flock had entered an area where beehives were located, noting that the animals lost their lives primarily due to being crushed and trapped as a result of the panic, rather than from bee stings.
