Tragic accident in Başakşehir: Pedestrian struck by semi-truck loses life
In Başakşehir, 46-year-old Yakup Altınboğa, who was attempting to cross the road, lost his life at the scene after being struck by a semi-truck. An investigation into the accident has been launched.
A pedestrian lost his life in a traffic accident that occurred in the morning hours in Başakşehir, Istanbul. According to the information obtained, a semi-truck with license plate 54 RA 054, traveling in the direction of Sultangazi on Eski Edirne Asfaltı Street, struck Yakup Altınboğa as he was attempting to cross the road.
DRAGGED FOR METERS
The vehicle, under the control of a driver whose name has not yet been learned, took Altınboğa under its wheels upon impact and dragged him for meters. Citizens in the vicinity who witnessed the accident immediately notified health and police teams.
Health teams dispatched to the scene determined in their initial examination that 46-year-old Yakup Altınboğa had lost his life. Altınboğa's body was taken to the morgue following the prosecutor's investigation.
ONE LANE OF THE ROAD CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
Police teams, who took security measures on the street due to the accident, closed one lane of the road to traffic for a period of time. The truck driver was taken into custody and brought to the police station to provide a statement.
While authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, examinations regarding the cause of the accident and whether there was any negligence are ongoing.
