Travel ban to Erzincan! Will last 4 days

Erzincan's İliç district, where the Çöpler Gold Mine operated by the Anagold company is located, remains the site of a tense wait for the workers trapped under soil following a collapse. Meanwhile, the Tunceli Governor's Office has announced that political parties and non-governmental organizations are prohibited from traveling to Erzincan until February 18. The reason cited for the ban is the potential for protests and demonstrations.

The collapse disaster at the Çöpler Gold Mine occurred at a facility that was not shut down despite a 50-ton cyanide-laced water leak in 2021, and which had been granted approval for capacity expansion.

Political parties and non-governmental organizations traveling from Tunceli to show solidarity were stopped and blocked at the Sütlüce police checkpoint.

In a statement issued by the Tunceli Governor's Office, it was stated: "A decision has been made to restrict the departure of individuals and their vehicles from within our province's borders to the province of Erzincan, for the purpose of organizing protests and events related to the landslide incident in Erzincan, from 00:01 on February 14, 2024, until 23:59 on February 18, 2024, within the framework of relevant legislation. Respectfully announced to the public."
