Treasure hunters caught red-handed in tunnel
In Aksaray, 5 treasure hunters conducting illegal excavations were caught red-handed by a Gendarmerie operation inside a 30-meter-long tunnel at a depth of 10 meters.
The operation was carried out on a plot of land located within the borders of Aksaray's central district.
According to the information obtained, teams from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch, having received intelligence that 5 suspects were searching for treasure by conducting illegal excavations, took action under the coordination of the Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Gendarmerie KOM teams, having identified the 5 suspects, monitored them technically and physically for 4 days.
Following the surveillance, the Gendarmerie teams, having gathered sufficient evidence and findings, pressed the button for the operation. During the operation, all 5 suspects were caught red-handed while conducting illegal excavations inside the tunnel on the land.

While the suspects were taken into custody, a search of the tunnel resulted in the seizure of 1 generator, 1 drilling tool, 3 shovels, 2 extension cables, 1 floodlight, and 13 meters of rope. The seized materials were confiscated, and the 5 suspects taken into custody were brought to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command for questioning.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
