Truck driver caught drunk: 'I've been stopped many times after smoking marijuana, nothing happened'

The truck with license plate 33 AKV 466, driven by Eyüpcan Kutlu, which set off from Istanbul's Bahçelievler district heading to Edirne, was signaled to stop by police teams at the city entrance.

After crushing the warning signs at the police checkpoint located at the Kıyık entrance of the TEM Edirne highway connection road, the drunk driver Kutlu, who did not obey the police's 'stop' order, began to flee from the police.

Trying to hide with his truck while fleeing through the city, driver Kutlu endangered the lives of citizens by failing to yield to pedestrians crossing the road.

Following reports from citizens, the drunk driver was pursued and apprehended shortly after on Abdi İpekçi Street.

During the police check, it was learned that driver Kutlu had previously been processed for driving under the influence. In the breathalyzer test conducted, driver Kutlu was found to have a blood alcohol level of 131 promille.

Truck driver Kutlu pleaded with the police for minutes and cried in an attempt to avoid a fine and losing his license. Later, driver Kutlu called his father but did not receive the support he expected from him.

HIS LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED FOR 2 YEARS

It was also observed that Kutlu said; "I've been stopped many times after smoking marijuana, nothing happened".

Traffic police imposed a fine of 9 thousand 450 TL on driver Kutlu for violating traffic rules and driving under the influence, and his license was suspended for 2 years.

Additionally, driver Kutlu was taken to the police station to provide a statement.
