Truck with failed brakes causes tragedy on Erzurum-Artvin road

A dangerous accident occurred this afternoon on the Yedigöller section of the Erzurum-Artvin highway. A truck descending a ramp faced a critical situation when its brakes failed due to a technical malfunction. The truck driver, reported to be an Iranian citizen, realized he could not control the accelerating vehicle and jumped out while it was still in motion.

Once the truck's brakes failed, the heavy vehicle went out of control, causing terrifying moments for those in a car on the opposite side of the road. Seeing the truck heading toward them, the car driver made a sudden steering maneuver to avoid a collision. However, the car hit the barriers, was thrown into the rocky area by the roadside, and rolled into a ditch. The uncontrolled truck overturned and tipped onto its side as it continued moving, blocking the road to traffic.

Following the accident, other drivers passing by immediately called for help. Numerous gendarmerie and medical teams arrived at the scene in a short time. Initial examinations by medical teams confirmed that the driver who jumped from the truck had lost his life at the scene.

Two people injured when the car flew into the ditch were taken to Uzundere State Hospital for treatment after receiving initial intervention. While gendarmerie teams took security measures in the area, a detailed investigation into the accident has been launched.

Transportation was disrupted following the accident, and teams are continuing their work at the scene.
