TÜİK releases data for the first time: Turkey's wealthiest and poorest places identified

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has shared with the public the Socioeconomic Status (SES) score, prepared by taking into account the income, education, and occupation information of households. This study, which covers more than 26 million households, has mapped out Turkey's socioeconomic landscape on a provincial and district basis.

The reference year for the report, which was prepared using 2022, 2023, and 2024 data, was set as 2023.

ONLY 1.1 PERCENT AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

According to the study, only 1.1 percent of households in Turkey are at the highest level. The distribution is as follows:

11.0% upper level

16.4% upper-lower level

19.7% upper-middle level

16.5% lower-middle level

18.6% lower level

16.7% lowest level

ISTANBUL, ANKARA, AND IZMIR STAND OUT AMONG PROVINCES

According to the data, of the households in the highest and upper levels:

28.6% are in Istanbul,

11.5% are in Ankara,

6.7% are in Izmir,

3.9% are in Bursa,

3.3% are in Antalya.

Looking at the details on a provincial basis:

Ankara: 2.5% of households are at the highest level, 16.5% at the upper level, and 20% at the upper-lower level.

Istanbul: 2.4% of households are at the highest level, 16.4% at the upper level, and 19% at the upper-lower level.

Izmir: 1.2% of households are at the highest level, 12.4% at the upper level, and 17.6% at the upper-lower level.

ÇANKAYA AT THE TOP, FOLLOWED BY KADIKÖY AND BEŞİKTAŞ

In the assessment conducted on a district basis, Ankara's Çankaya district had the highest SES score. 4.1% of households in the highest and upper-level group live in Çankaya.

LOWEST DISTRICT: GİRESUN ÇAMOLUK

At the bottom of the list is the Çamoluk district of Giresun. Other districts with the lowest SES scores were listed as Derebucak (Konya), Doğanşar (Sivas), Felahiye (Kayseri), Dikmen (Sinop), Pınarbaşı (Kastamonu), and Bayramören (Çankırı).
