Tunç Soyer puts an end to claims of running for party chairmanship

Soyer responded to claims that he wants to run for the CHP chairmanship on the 'Habere Doğru' program aired on Tele1.

Regarding the controversy between former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and journalist Fatih Altaylı, Tunç Soyer said, "He mentioned it a little. In Turkey, elegance is confused with weakness. I have often expressed this. Unfortunately, elegance is often perceived as weakness. Elegant people must also be very brave and determined so that it does not turn into weakness. Mr. Kemal probably responded by showing that determination. I mean, anyone would be hurt and offended. 'Traitor' is a very heavy insult. It is clear that Mr. Kemal was very offended by this."

RESPONSE TO CHAIRMANSHIP CANDIDACY CLAIMS

Soyer gave the following response to claims that he wants to run for the CHP chairmanship:

"Actually, I have not asked anyone for such a thing. There is no such thing on the agenda of the CHP or Turkey. The CHP is not looking for a chairman either. Therefore, I do not know where it came from exactly. I mean, of course, this is the dream of every CHP member. Because you want to do politics in a way that reaches the most people. You want to do it in a way that touches lives the most. The office of the chairman is such an office. It is one of the most important offices for politics. It is very flattering in one respect that it is associated with me and comes to the agenda without me voicing or demanding such a thing. But in one respect, it is not true. Because there is no such agenda."

"CHP SHOULD FOCUS ON COMING TO POWER"

My mother is 87 years old. She says one thing: My child, I have never seen such a cost of living in my life. This is a reality. There is deep poverty. Unemployment has reached 29 percent. There is a truly dire picture. While there is such a dire picture, the CHP is lighting a beacon of hope.

Because for the first time in 23 years, there is a government that has been making this public suffer. Therefore, the CHP is the hope of 85 million. This hope cannot be grown by fighting within itself or by fighting for positions and titles among itself. Great harm is done to that hope.

The CHP needs to put aside internal debates and focus only on how to come to power, and how success at the local level can make it possible to overthrow the central government and establish a government of the people. I am trying to do this. In every environment I am in, I am trying to do whatever is possible to send this government away.

I think life is changed through politics. Politics is the art of improving life. No matter what position I am in, I have always tried to do this. Because I know the misery and poverty that people experience in these beautiful lands, and moreover, I know that it is possible for this to change. I will continue this struggle until my last breath.

"WE HAD A LITTLE LAUGH WITH MR. KEMAL"

The chairmanship is such a nice thing for me, -we had a little laugh with Mr. Kemal last night too- I really did not have such a request from anyone. We did not talk about such a thing with Mr. Kemal either. He just said, 'They asked me this and that, and I said this and that.' And I said, 'Sir, you said it well, let them ask me, I will say whatever I need to say.'"
