Turkey enters the holiday with heavy rainfall
The weather will be cloudy and rainy across the country today. Citizens in 17 provinces, for which the Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert, are urged to be cautious against potential adverse conditions. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected, particularly in the eastern part of the Marmara region, as well as in some parts of the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.
Heavy cloud cover and intermittent rainfall continue to affect a large part of the country today. The rainfall is expected to be severe in the eastern provinces of the Marmara region, as well as around Düzce, Antalya, Adana, and the Gulf of Iskenderun. Temperatures are forecast to be 2 to 4 degrees below seasonal norms in the western parts, while they are expected to be above normal in the east.
Strong winds are expected to blow from the north and northeast at speeds of 40-60 km/h in the Marmara and North Aegean regions. Experts have warned citizens against the risk of icing and frost in the higher elevations of the interior and eastern regions today and during the night.
Regarding the details of weather events in different parts of the country; precipitation will generally be in the form of rain, but sleet or snow will be seen in the interior parts of the Western and Eastern Black Sea regions and some high-altitude areas. Snowfall will also occur in some places in the higher elevations of the Mediterranean and Aegean regions.
WARNINGS AND PROVINCES OF NOTE
According to meteorological assessments, a yellow alert has been issued for 17 provinces, particularly in the eastern Marmara, western Mediterranean, Adana, Düzce, and the Gulf of Iskenderun. These provinces are listed as: Balıkesir, Bingöl, Bitlis, Bursa, Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, Istanbul, Kocaeli, Mardin, Muş, Sakarya, Siirt, Batman, Şırnak, Yalova, and Düzce.
Authorities state that citizens should be cautious against potential problems such as flooding and disruptions in transportation in areas receiving heavy rainfall. Additionally, it is advised to be careful against strong winds, especially along the Marmara and Aegean coastlines.
There is a danger of avalanches and snowmelt in the regions of Eastern Anatolia and the Eastern Black Sea that have high snow cover. It is reported that icing and frost may occur in the interior parts during the night and morning hours.
WEATHER NOTES FROM THE REGIONS
In Marmara, while heavy clouds are seen throughout the region, the rainfall will increase in intensity in the eastern provinces, especially in Istanbul and Kocaeli. The wind is blowing strongly from the north.
In the Aegean, rain and showers will be effective throughout the day with increasing cloudiness, especially in Edirne, Izmir, Afyonkarahisar, and Muğla; sleet and snow are expected at higher altitudes. The Aegean coastline is among the regions that will be most affected by the wind.
In the Mediterranean, intermittent showers and thunderstorms are forecast throughout the day in Adana, Antalya, Hatay, and Mersin. Sleet may also be seen in the higher parts of the region.
In Central Anatolia, there is a possibility of intermittent rain in Ankara, Eskişehir, Konya, and Nevşehir. From the early morning hours, sleet and occasionally snow may be observed in the northern and eastern highlands.
In the western part of the Black Sea, rain is expected in general, especially in Bolu, Düzce, and Zonguldak, with sleet in the higher elevations, while there is a risk of icing and frost at night and towards morning in the Central and Eastern Black Sea regions.
In Eastern Anatolia, in addition to snowfall, rain and showers are prominent in Malatya and Elazığ. In the vicinity of Şırnak and Van, intermittent precipitation will be accompanied by sleet and snow at higher altitudes.
In Southeastern Anatolia, it is reported that intermittent showers will continue in a cloudy weather environment around Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Siirt, and Şanlıurfa.
Those who will go out today are advised to take the necessary precautions by considering the weather conditions in their respective regions.
