Turkey to attend Syria meeting in Doha
The foreign ministers of Russia, Turkey, and Iran will meet in Doha to evaluate the latest situation in Syria. The summit will address steps to be taken for reconciliation among Syrians.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that they will meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to discuss developments in Syria and steps toward resolving the crisis.
'RECONCILIATION MUST BE ACHIEVED AMONG SYRIANS'
Lavrov stated that the main purpose of the meeting is to ensure that Syrians reach an agreement among themselves. Recalling the role Russia played in the Astana talks in 2019 and 2020, Lavrov emphasized that a solution to the crisis could be found with a similar understanding.
CLASHES HAVE REIGNITED
Attacks by groups led by HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) in northern Syria have led to an intensification of clashes in the Aleppo and Hama regions. The fact that these areas have fallen under the control of jihadists has caused the civilian population to face a greater humanitarian crisis.
MEETING DATE NOT YET DETERMINED
While Lavrov noted that there is no clarity yet regarding the date of the meeting, he drew attention to the importance of international cooperation to resolve the clashes in the region before they lead to further loss of life.
The summit to be held in Doha is expected to be an important step toward ending the clashes in Syria and finding a political solution.
