Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı meets Iranian-origin astronaut in space
Turkey's first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, will be welcomed at the International Space Station (ISS) by a team led by Iranian-origin astronaut Yasmin Moghbeli following his space journey.
The first Turkish astronaut to go to space, Alper Gezeravcı, will arrive at the International Space Station (ISS) today. Gezeravcı will be welcomed by a team led by NASA astronaut Yasmin Moghbeli, who is of Iranian descent.
Alper Gezeravcı, who began his space journey on Friday, January 19, aboard the American company SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft, plans to dock with the ISS this morning. The docking time, previously stated as 13:15 TSI, has been updated following the announcement that the capsule would reach its target earlier, and is now estimated to be 12:19 TSI.
The team that will welcome Alper Gezeravcı at the ISS is under the leadership of NASA and the command of Yasmin Moghbeli. Jasmin Moghbeli is originally from Iran and was born in America, where she immigrated with her family; she studied information technology and aerospace engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Moghbeli is commanding the joint NASA-SpaceX space flight and is noted for her high proficiency in Persian, English, and Russian.
