Two proposals from AKP's Şamil Tayyar regarding the 'diploma' crisis! He pointed to Article 101 of the Constitution

Turkey woke up to news of dawn raids again this morning. Yesterday evening (March 18), IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose diploma was cancelled, was detained as part of a 'corruption' and 'terrorism' investigation launched into the municipality.

While discussions regarding the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma continued yesterday evening, former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar offered two suggestions as a 'simple citizen'.

Stating that various debates occupying Turkey's agenda are increasing political tension, Tayyar suggested that potential constitutional amendments regarding the presidential elections could reduce this tension.

Tayyar noted the following in his post on his X account:

"Numerous topics of debate, such as diploma cancellation, the resolution process, deputy transfers, a new Constitution, and investigation files, are deeply affecting social and political dynamics. At the center of all these tensions are claims regarding the upcoming Presidential election.

Naturally, political tension has risen significantly, and more energy has begun to accumulate along social fault lines. How can we get out of this predicament? As a simple citizen, I have a personal suggestion.

Since all debates lead to the Presidential election, amendments to Article 101 of the Constitution, which regulates candidacy requirements, might be a solution. The 'higher education' requirement and the 'two-term limit for being elected President' could be removed. If the AK Party and CHP reach a consensus on this, politics might begin to flow in its natural course, and social tension might decrease, perhaps. I think it should be tried."
