Ümit Özdağ reveals what Kılıçdaroğlu said in 2023 for the first time! 'Despite my warnings...'
Speaking about the alliance protocol he made with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the second round of the 2023 presidential elections, Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ stated, "Kemal Bey did not want to win the election in 2023; I told him this during that alliance meeting, and he replied to me, 'If I lose, I lose.'"
Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ made striking statements regarding the current agenda.
Responding to questions from Cansu Çamlıbel of T24, Özdağ made notable remarks about the former CHP chairman, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. When reminded of the alliance protocol he made with Kılıçdaroğlu during the second round of the presidential elections, Özdağ gave the following answer to the question, "Do you regret it?":
"No, we did the right thing. But you cannot make a man win who does not want to win. The problem was with Kemal Bey. He did not want to win. I told him this. I said that if you do not highlight my position as Minister of Interior, you will lose this election. Because the voters who will cast their ballots in the second round are not those who want to see you take over the presidency from Erdoğan, but those who want to see me take over the Ministry of Interior from Süleyman Soylu. Kılıçdaroğlu replied to this warning of mine by saying, 'If I lose, I lose.'"
Recalling that he pointed to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş as a candidate in 2022, Özdağ said, "I announced that Mansur Bey (Yavaş) should be the candidate in April 2022, and that is what the polls showed, that is what the field showed. If it had been accepted, this would be a different Turkey. Mansur Bey still comes out very strong in the polls," he said.
GREEN LIGHT FOR ALLIANCE
Özdağ gave a green light for an alliance in his response to the question, "Do you think there could be an alliance among opposition parties against Erdoğan in the next elections, in 2027 or 2028?"
Özdağ said the following:
It could happen, of course. Look, if someone had told you a year ago that Bahçeli and Abdullah Öcalan would form an alliance, why would you have had that person committed, right? Now, in a situation where Bahçeli and Öcalan are forming an alliance, could we have the mindset of not coming together by nitpicking? Can we explain this to our children? Can we explain this to history? Can we explain this to the nation? No, we cannot. Therefore, I think we must always create the conditions to come together. It is too early to talk. In politics, 24 hours is a very long time. But Turkey will certainly go to the elections with alliances. The Victory Party is not closed to electoral alliances. We would desire it to happen.
