Ümit Özdağ's statement on the 'indictment': 'A decision must be made now'

A new development has occurred regarding Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, who is in custody and under investigation on charges of insulting President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and inciting the public to hatred and enmity.

Zafer Party General Administrative Board (GİK) member Jülide Sarıkaya Kurdoğlu had claimed in a statement to 12punto that the indictment prepared against Ümit Özdağ on charges of insulting President Erdoğan had been completed.

However, a denial of Kurdoğlu's statement came shortly thereafter. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the reports in the press did not reflect the truth and that the indictment had not yet been completed.

Following the discussions, a statement regarding the matter came from the detained Ümit Özdağ. In a written statement made via social media, Özdağ stated that the claim that the indictment had been prepared was made due to a lack of legal knowledge on the part of the Zafer Party GİK member.

Özdağ used the following expressions in his statement:

“One of our General Administrative Board members made an incorrect statement to the public due to a lack of legal knowledge. When an indictment is completed and accepted by the court, it appears in the UYAP system. According to the information given to me by my lawyers, all information and documents have been entered into the investigation file. This means that the investigation is complete, which means a decision must be made now.”
