Uncertainty over PKK dissolution: Expected statement has not arrived

The terrorist organization PKK announced on Friday, May 9, that it had convened its congress between May 5 and 7. While journalist İsmail Saymaz suggested that the dissolution statement would be made today at 13:00, media outlets close to the government also reported that the dissolution statement would be issued today.

However, no statement has been made so far. According to a report in Sözcü, the dissolution statement may come in the following days.

Journalist Serkan Alan stated the following regarding the matter:

"It may happen in the coming days. The reason for this is that there are allegations of various disagreements at the final stage. We heard on Friday that the terrorist organization PKK's congress had convened between May 5 and 7.

There are allegations that disagreements have emerged within the so-called leadership cadre of the terrorist organization PKK and that some could not be persuaded. For this reason, it is claimed that the dissolution statement could not be made."

Emphasizing the uncertainties regarding the process, Alan continued his remarks as follows:

"WE MAY SEE A NEW STEP FROM İMRALI"

"Where will the individuals in the terrorist category go, and will there be an arrangement for those currently imprisoned? This statement needs to be made amidst many unknowns, such as the Anti-Terror Law.

There is resistance within the terrorist organization. If this statement does not come within a few days starting next week, we may see a new step from İmralı. An İmralı delegation could go to the island and hold a meeting with Öcalan. A text containing more comprehensive or clearer sentences could be drafted; at this stage, we will be following this from Ankara."
