The Newborn Gang, which caused the deaths of numerous babies by transferring them to private hospitals for illicit gain in Istanbul, has dominated Turkey's agenda.

Following the scandal, Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu, who was at the center of criticism, made statements via social media. 

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu announced the measures to be taken against those who abuse the healthcare system. The Minister stated, "Our ongoing inspections will continue to be carried out day and night, more strictly than ever, so as not to give any leeway to those who threaten our citizens and their children by abusing our healthcare system."

Memişoğlu claimed that current health services would continue without interruption. Memişoğlu said, "Our Ministry's inspection teams will be in the field at full capacity to inspect not only the newborn branch but all branches in hospitals."

EXPERT COMMISSIONS WILL BE ESTABLISHED

Stating that the current inspection system needs to be updated, the Minister said, "Commissions consisting of physicians and academics who are experts in their fields will be established for every branch."

IS STRUCTURAL REFORM COMING?

Emphasizing that inspections of private hospitals are ongoing, Memişoğlu said, "Structural reforms regarding private healthcare institutions are also on our Ministry's agenda." Minister Memişoğlu signaled that radical changes would be made in the healthcare sector.

Finally, emphasizing that the reputation of healthcare workers will be protected, Minister Memişoğlu said, "We will not let a handful of greedy gangs trample on the reputation of our healthcare workers who serve with great sacrifice during disasters and epidemics."
