Unnecessary surgeries and implants performed at state hospital: Number of patients revealed

Some staff members, who noticed an unusual increase in surgeries and the use of metal implants in the hospital's Orthopedics Department, were horrified when they examined the patients' X-rays.

While it is alleged that at least 75 patients were fitted with implants without any medical necessity, doctors pointed to collusion with medical companies.

According to the allegations, while patients' fractures could have been treated with simpler methods, some doctors who had established conflict-of-interest relationships with medical companies performed unnecessary surgeries. It was stated that the doctor who uncovered the scandal has been subjected to pressure, and no progress has been made by the authorities yet.

UNNECESSARY SURGERIES AND IMPLANTS REVEALED

It was determined that at least 75 patients were fitted with implants despite there being no medical necessity. It was understood that the fractures of patients aged between 2 and 40 were treated with methods different from what should have been used.

DOCTORS REACTED TO THE SITUATION

Regarding the scandal, which was brought to light by a report prepared by Hazar Dost for the program Arena with Uğur Dündar, IYI Party MP Turhan Çömez and orthopedic specialists described the incident as a "crime against humanity." It was stated that the doctor who uncovered the situation at the hospital was subjected to mobbing.

The doctor, who determined that implants were even placed in patients' bones that were not fractured, made the following statements regarding the background of the incident:

"They have agreements with medical companies. More implants mean more money. Because I uncovered this, they are not providing me with materials."

While it was stated that the investigation initiated by the Health Directorate has not progressed, the doctors revealed how the greed for money affects patient health.

IYI PARTY INITIATES LEGAL PROCESS

Following the scandal revealed on Arena, the IYI Party has taken action. The party, which is preparing to file a criminal complaint along with the X-rays of the unnecessary treatments applied to 75 patients, will demand that those responsible for the scandal be put on trial.
