Verdict reached in 'baby corpse in backpack' case

On January 18, in the Fatih neighborhood of Uşak's city center, a baby's corpse was found inside a bag with its mouth taped shut on the edge of a vacant field.

The baby's mother, K.G., and father, S.D., who were apprehended in connection with the incident, were arrested by the court on January 22 and sent to prison.

A lawsuit was filed against the mother and father by the Uşak 1st High Criminal Court for the crime of "intentional killing of a close relative who cannot defend themselves."

Today, the detained defendants, mother K.G. and father S.D., appeared in court. In his defense, the father stated, "I could not comprehend where the consequences would lead. I do not know how such a situation came about. I am not a person who would carry out such an act. I am very regretful."

"UNDER PRESSURE FROM MY BOYFRIEND..."

In her defense, the mother said, "I had no such intention. I had just given birth. I was in the postpartum period. No one was by my side. I was very lonely. This situation occurred under the pressure of my boyfriend. I am very regretful."

Announcing its verdict after the defenses, the court panel, taking into account the father S.D.'s prior criminal record for qualified fraud, sentenced him to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a close relative who cannot defend themselves," and sentenced the mother to life imprisonment for the same crime.
