Victory Party speaks from Silivri: 'Let them know they have created millions of Ümit Özdağs!'

Party members held a press conference in front of the Marmara Prison in Silivri for Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, whose hearing date was moved forward and who was ordered to remain in custody. Victory Party Deputy Chairman Ali Şehirlioğlu stated, "Let those who convict Ümit Özdağ know that they have created millions of Ümit Özdağs." 

In his statement, Şehirlioğlu said the following: 

“Today, we have come together once again on a cold, very cold Silivri day to cry out for justice for Ümit Özdağ. We have come to Silivri for justice, in search of rights, but we have come with sadness. We have come to salute the soldier of Mustafa Kemal, Başbuğ Ümit Özdağ, who has been unlawfully imprisoned behind iron bars. Yesterday, we experienced another legal disaster that will go down in Turkish legal history as a black mark. Today, we are together in Silivri to explain this to the Turkish nation. Yesterday, on February 19, 2025, the hearing to evaluate the detention of Ümit Özdağ, which was fixed for today, was held in a rush yesterday, on February 18. As a result of this hasty hearing, which his lawyers could not attend because they were not informed that it had been moved up by one day, it was decided that his detention would continue.

'WE HAVE COME TO COMPLAIN TO OUR PEOPLE'

We have come to complain to our people about those who murder the law and persecute our Chairman, and to imprison them in the conscience of the Turkish nation. Even if you imprison Ümit Özdağ, who dedicated his entire life to the prosperity of the Turkish nation, behind iron bars, look, we have come here to stand in salute as thousands here and millions of Ümit Özdağs behind us. 

We have come to shout from Silivri about this great injustice, which has no parallel in our Republic spanning over a century, nor in any period of Turkish history, with any politician being a detainee or convict. Let everyone know that Silivri will no longer be cold from now on; it will be remembered as “Silivri is warm” with our love for our Chairman Ümit Özdağ. 

We will not be silenced, we will not be deterred. Together, we will fight shoulder to shoulder until Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ regains his freedom.”
