The incident took place on the night of Thursday, January 11, at a business center in the Nişantaş neighborhood of the central Selçuklu district. According to the information obtained, Şükrü Portakal, who has an office in the business center, noticed that the door was open when he arrived at his workplace in the morning.

Upon checking his workplace, Şükrü Portakal saw that his collection, consisting of prayer beads, wristwatches, and rings worth approximately 350 thousand liras, was missing. Thereupon, Şükrü Portakal reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. The Theft and Pickpocketing Bureau teams affiliated with the Public Security Branch, dispatched to the scene, launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the suspects. In the detailed study, the police determined that the theft suspects were Adem E. (38), who has 10 criminal records, and Ayşe Dilek T. (43), who has 14 criminal records, based on the entry and exit times of the business center. The suspects were caught and detained by police teams in the studio apartment they were hiding in, located in the Selçuklu district. The collection of prayer beads, wristwatches, and rings worth 350 thousand liras that they stole from the workplace, as well as two shotguns, rugs, saddlebags, and similar items, were seized by the police and returned to their owner.

THEY RENTED A WORKPLACE

On the other hand, it was determined that the suspects had toured the workplaces for a while to scout the area before committing the theft at the business center, and then noticed the collection that Şükrü Portakal had been gathering since a watch he was gifted in 2015. Following this, it was revealed that the suspects rented an office on the floor above the workplace where the collection was kept and followed Şükrü Portakal for a while. After completing their procedures at the police station, Adem E. and Ayşe Dilek T. were arrested by the court they were referred to and sent to prison.

"THERE ARE MEMORIES HERE..."

Explaining that he left the office in the evening and noticed the incident when he arrived in the morning, workplace owner Şükrü Portakal said, "I left the office around 19.30. With the information we obtained after the suspects were caught, we learned that they entered between 4 and 5 that night. These individuals had rented an office on the floor above us 2 months ago. While they were in the office, they scouted the location, and the incident took place on a holy night (Kandil) when no one was in the business center. When I arrived the next day, I saw the door was open. I called the police directly; they told me not to touch anything and came to conduct an investigation. After the police arrived, we assessed the damage. They had stolen our items worth up to 350 thousand liras. The Theft Bureau teams called me and asked me to come to the police station, and the suspects had been caught. They showed me the items and the individuals. I stated that I did not know the suspects. These individuals had rented a house to escape after the incident, and our items were found in that house. We did not have a security camera. After the incident, they tried to take fingerprints, but no fingerprints were found. After this incident, I had a security camera system installed in my office. I accumulated my memories here; I collected items that hold memories from the jobs where I earned my living in the past. There are tea trays in my office because I started earning my money in 1984 by working as a tea server with that tray. There are memories in this collection; there is a life lived here. Our police showed a devoted effort during this process. I would like to thank them," he said.
