AKP's Şamil Tayyar criticizes Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı over trustee claims: 'They should be rounded up tonight'

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into journalist Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı, who alleged that "the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress will be annulled and a temporary trustee will be appointed to the party."

In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the investigation was opened under Article 217 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which carries a penalty of one to three years in prison for "anyone who publicly disseminates false information regarding the country's internal or external security, public order, or general health, in a manner capable of disturbing public peace, with the sole intent of creating anxiety, fear, or panic among the public."

Former AKP MP and Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) member Şamil Tayyar reacted sharply to Kütahyalı. Speaking during a live broadcast, Tayyar argued that the claims in question incite the public to hatred and enmity and threaten social peace, stating that Kütahyalı and others who make similar posts "should be rounded up tonight."

Tayyar stated the following: "It is a shame. You cannot play with the emotions of the nation like this. If an opposition figure had made these posts, they would have been raided at night. To establish a sense of justice in society, you must act equally. You sit there and pass judgment, leaning on two people while manipulating society. You have no right to do this!"

"If someone were to attack a place or damage someone's property because of these reports, could you handle the consequences? Why are you stirring up society with these fake reports? Who are you, brother? You are making decisions on behalf of judges, you are speaking on behalf of prosecutors! Just as legal action is taken against opposition journalists, the same should be done to those who spread these fake reports. No one can play with the intelligence of this nation and state."

WHAT DID RASIM OZAN KÜTAHYALI SAY?

Journalist Rasim Ozan Kütahyalı claimed in a post on his social media account that a trustee would be appointed to the CHP following the first hearing of the case regarding allegations of irregularities in the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, which is set to be held tomorrow at the 42nd Civil Court of First Instance. In his post, Kütahyalı included the following statements: "Tomorrow, the November 2023 CHP congress is being annulled. A temporary trustee is being appointed to the CHP, and the new CHP congress is being held on June 1, 2025, 45 days later. It is said that the trustee will be Hikmet Çetin. A large number of security forces have been dispatched from Istanbul to Ankara against the possibility of a potential uprising. All leave for security forces in Ankara has been canceled. Tomorrow, Ankara is preparing for a very long day. Unfortunately, the situation appears to be this way."
