Bahçeli says 'it should be tried urgently', Cem Küçük gives a date: It will take 4 years
While MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's remarks regarding the İmamoğlu case are being debated, Cem Küçük has provided a notable calculation for the trial.
The repercussions of the arrest of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on charges of "corruption" continue.
Cem Küçük also commented on the Ekrem İmamoğlu case during a program he attended.
Küçük stated, "The preparation of the indictment will take 4-5 months, 1 year for the trial, 1 year for the appellate court, 1 year for the Court of Cassation, and there is also 6 months for the back-and-forth; it will take a total of 3.5-4 years."
Ekrem İmamoğlu was taken into custody on March 19 and was arrested and placed in Silivri Prison on March 23.
The question of how long the trial process for Ekrem İmamoğlu would take had come to the agenda with the statement made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.
In his statement, Bahçeli said, "The court processes regarding the suspect Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently in Silivri Prison due to allegations of theft, bribery, and corruption surrounding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, must be heard and concluded urgently."
Journalist Cem Küçük stated on the program he attended on TGRT Haber that the Ekrem İmamoğlu case could take 3.5 to 4 years.
Küçük said, "Since there are 109 people in the case, the completion of the indictment will take at least until September or October. The trial will take 1 year, and that is the best-case scenario. 1 year for the appellate court, 1 year for the Court of Cassation, and there is 6 months for the back-and-forth; 3.5 to 4 years. It will reach the beginning of 2029."
