CHP MP Sibel Suiçmez reacts to trustee appointment: 'We will put an end to this dark course'

Following the arrest warrant issued for Istanbul Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan as part of an urban consensus investigation, the Ministry of Interior has taken action. The ministry announced that it has appointed a trustee to the Şişli Municipality following Şahan's removal from office. Şişli District Governor Cevdet Ertürkmen has been appointed to the mayoral position.

POLICE BLOCKADE THE MUNICIPALITY

CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır announced that over a thousand police officers arrived in front of the Şişli Municipality at 04:30 in the morning. While the perimeter of the municipality was closed off with police barriers, municipal employees were not allowed to enter. Başarır stated that the trustee administration would enter the municipal building as of 09:00.

Information was shared that municipal employees would be allowed to enter in a controlled manner starting from 08:00.

'THESE BAD DAYS WILL END'

CHP MPs gathered in front of the municipality reacted to the situation. CHP MP Sibel Suiçmez made the following statements in her assessment for 12punto:

"The trustee district governor will come to the municipality today. That is why we faced an intense police intervention at 04:30 in the morning. Currently, our colleagues from our parliamentary group are in the CHP group hall. They are at their posts. The surroundings of the municipality have been practically blockaded. We are facing an approach that does not respect the will of the citizens. However, our belief that these bad days will end is absolute. We are not pessimistic. We are more faithful, determined, and hopeful than yesterday. We will send this dark period to the dustbin of history."
