Footage has emerged showing that CHP leader Özgür Özel did not shake the hand of Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu—who is expected to defect to the AKP—during a meeting of mayors held at the CHP Headquarters on July 10, following operations targeting the party's municipalities in Antalya, Adana, and Adıyaman.
Following the operations conducted against the municipalities of Antalya, Adana, and Adıyaman, the CHP gathered all its mayors at the party headquarters on July 10. It was noted that during the meeting, CHP leader Özgür Özel avoided shaking hands with Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu.
Having previously held extraordinary meetings of the Central Executive Board on July 5 and the Party Assembly on July 6, the CHP had titled the July 10 session "The People's Municipality, The People's Will."
CHP leader Özgür Özel, who attended the meeting, shook hands one by one with other figures in the hall, including Tekirdağ Metropolitan Mayor Candar Yüceer, Balıkesir Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Akın, CHP Deputy Chairman Responsible for Local Governments and Resilient Cities Gökan Zeybek, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın, CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş.
However, it emerged that Özel did not shake hands with Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu.
