He was showered with bullets while leaving the hotel: Suspects caught, turned out to be 2 feuding criminal organizations
The murder of Barış Özdoğan, who lost his life after being shot with automatic weapons 2 weeks ago in Sultangazi, Istanbul, has been solved. In the work carried out by the Murder Bureau, two suspects identified as having used the weapon were caught. It was revealed that this incident in Sultangazi was a clash between 2 regional criminal organizations included in the KAFES-29 operation announced by Interior Minister Yerlikaya.

The incident occurred on December 21, 2023, at around 21:23 in front of a hotel located in Uğur Mumcu Neighborhood. Allegedly, Barış Özdoğan, who went outside to meet his girlfriend who came to visit him at the hotel where he was staying, was subjected to an armed attack by two people who came to the front of the hotel by car.
THE INCIDENT ON CAMERA
Özdoğan, who was hit by numerous bullets in the attack where automatic weapons were used, lost his life at the scene. Approximately 50 shell casings were found at the scene. Security camera footage of the incident, where the terror took place, has emerged.

VEHICLE FOUND BURNED
Following the incident, teams from the Public Security Branch Murder Bureau took action. The police, who set out from the direction in which the vehicle used in the attack fled, found the vehicle used in the incident burned.
TWO ATTACKERS CAUGHT
Upon finding the vehicle, the Murder Bureau teams deepened the investigation. In the work carried out, Mehmet E. (18) and Arif R. (20), who were stated to be suspects, were caught. It was revealed that Mehmet E., one of the detained suspects, had 10 separate criminal records, and Arif R. had 14.

CLASH OF TWO REGIONAL GANGS
In the work carried out regarding the incident, the details of the attack emerged. It was alleged that the armed attack was a clash between 2 separate feuding regional criminal organizations led by Volkan Reçber, who is abroad and has a red notice search warrant, and Emrah Sever, nicknamed "Arab Emrah," who is still in prison.
CLASHES ANNOUNCED BY THE MINISTER
An operation called KAFES-29 was also carried out against the members of these two criminal organizations.
Minister Yerlikaya included details about these two criminal organizations in the statement he made on his social media account.
Minister Yerlikaya, stating that 2 separate feuding regional criminal organizations led by criminal organization leader Volkan Reçber, who has a red notice, and Emrah Sever, nicknamed "Arab Emrah," who is still in prison, were targeted, provided the following information regarding the operation:
“It was determined that they carried out 4 separate murders in Istanbul, caused the death of 1 girl and damage to numerous workplaces due to armed clashes, engaged in clashes with police officers on duty in Eyüpsultan, carried out threats and armed attacks against individuals they had disputes with, carried out the shooting of numerous workplaces and residences for the purpose of intimidation and extortion, engaged in drug trafficking, had numerous unlicensed weapons seized, and looted the money of foreigners. In addition, in simultaneous operations organized against individuals who threaten public safety and peace by establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes and committing the above crimes within the scope of organizational activities in 7 provinces centered in Istanbul, 28 pistols, 6 AK-47 Kalashnikovs, 1 Utaş long-barreled automatic weapon, and 1 bulletproof vest were seized. 61 suspects were caught. We will continue to disturb those who disturb the peace of our nation. We are determined to catch the members of organized crime groups one by one and deliver them to justice. They will all go into the cage.”
