Major fire breaks out at plastic crate factory in İzmir: Brought under control following intervention

A fire broke out at a plastic crate factory located in the Selçuk district of İzmir. As flames engulfed the factory, smoke covered the sky. The fire was brought under control as a result of the intervention by firefighting teams.

The fire occurred around 08:00 in the morning at Okay Plastik, a factory producing plastic crates with a 9,000-square-meter indoor area situated on a 22-decare plot in the İsabey neighborhood of the Selçuk district. Citizens in the vicinity who saw smoke rising from the factory for reasons yet to be determined reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the report, numerous police and firefighting teams were dispatched to the address. While the police secured the perimeter, firefighting teams intervened in the flames.

While the fire was brought under control as a result of the firefighting teams' efforts, it was learned that cooling operations are ongoing at the factory.

STATEMENT FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNORATE

Selçuk District Governor Oğuz Alp Çağlar made a statement regarding the fire.

The statement included the following words:

"Firefighting teams are continuing to intervene with sufficient force in the fire that started at 08:00 at a plastic crate production factory located in the area near our district's TOKİ residences; there are no injuries in this area where police teams have taken security measures."
