Moments of panic in Esenyurt caught on camera: They thought it was an earthquake, but the truth was different

An interesting incident occurred in Esenyurt, Istanbul, on the evening of Thursday, May 15. Citizens dining at a restaurant in the Osman Gazi neighborhood experienced great fear due to sudden, earthquake-like vibrations.

Thinking it was an earthquake at first, the citizens rushed to the street in a panic.

However, it was soon understood that the cause of their fear was not an earthquake, but music blaring from a car passing through the street at that moment.

While the citizens took a deep breath after the fear they experienced, the moments of panic were reflected second by second on security cameras. In the footage, it was notable that the customers suddenly left their tables and ran outside.

Business owner Ayhan Acar described those moments as follows:

"I was serving that day. A car with a sound system passed by here. I actually understood, but my friends started to run away, thinking an earthquake was happening. There was a sudden panic here. I saw everyone starting to run, but after we realized the truth, it became a funny situation for us."

Leyla Uçar Acar, one of the other operators of the restaurant, described the customers' moments of panic with these words:

"While we were sitting, a noise suddenly broke out. We realized it, but since everyone has earthquake anxiety, the customers started to run away. People experienced earthquake fear until they realized the situation. It really felt like an earthquake, but because we saw the vehicles, we understood it wasn't. But it took the customers a while to realize. After they understood, everyone laughed at the situation, and it became quite fun afterward."
