'Parliament barricade' debate raises tensions on live broadcast: 'What you are saying is unintelligible'

Tensions rose at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) ahead of the Ministry of Interior budget negotiations.

CHP deputies set up a barricade at the entrance of the meeting hall to protest the appointment of trustees. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, seeing the barricade in front of him, engaged in actions that further escalated the tension and attempted to obstruct a cameraman trying to film the scene.

TENSION BETWEEN CHP'S BAŞARIR AND INTERIOR MINISTER YERLİKAYA

During the protest, a verbal altercation occurred between CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır and Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. AKP Group Deputy Chairman Mehmet Muş reacted to Başarır, saying, "Will you move the women out of the way?" While the protests and mutual harsh expressions marked the proceedings, the budget session was accompanied by tension.

CRISIS MOVES TO LIVE BROADCAST

The crisis at the TBMM was discussed on the program hosted by Fulya Öztürk on CNN Türk. Commenting on the incident, journalist Abdülkadir Selvi argued that there was no acceptable aspect to this action carried out by CHP members, stating, "Those who set up this barricade in Parliament are terrorist organizations; there is no difference between those who do this and the terrorists who set up barricades on the street."

Opposing these remarks, İsmail Dükel said, "CHP's Ali Mahir Başarır just wants to talk to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya for 2 minutes. When he is rejected, these events break out. The goal of the CHP deputies was to get information."

THE ARGUMENT WOULD NOT END

At this point in the discussion, both journalists began speaking in an increasingly heated manner while standing up, and moderator Fulya Öztürk and other guests tried to calm Selvi and Dükel down to quell the resulting chaos.

In the later moments of the program, when the duo argued with the same tone, Fulya Öztürk intervened again and warned both guests:

Look, viewers are sending messages, saying, 'What you are saying is unintelligible, we don't understand why the tension arose, and we can't understand your speeches either.'
