Release for ISIS members who killed 45 people at Atatürk Airport: 'Not in accordance with equity'

According to the report by Alican Uludağ, the defendants in the case where 45 people were massacred at Atatürk Airport have been released. A release decision was issued for the detained defendants in the case, which took place 8 years ago and resulted in the deaths of 45 people.

The 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation released 6 of the 7 detained defendants, stating that 'excessive sentences were given'.

In the attack carried out by 3 ISIS terrorists who were Russian, Kyrgyz, and Uzbek citizens, 163 people were injured and 45 people were killed.

The defendants had appealed to the Court of Cassation against the decision sentencing them to 46 aggravated life sentences each for violating the Constitution and killing 45 people.

On December 12, the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation overturned the local court's decision, stating it was 'not in accordance with equity'.

With this decision by the Court of Cassation, 6 detainees, excluding the Algerian defendant, were released.

The case will be retried at a later date.

STATEMENT FROM THE CENTER FOR COMBATING DISINFORMATION

Following the news that the Atatürk Airport attackers were released, the following statement was issued by the Center for Combating Disinformation:

It has been determined that the news appearing in some media outlets, "ISIS terrorist organization members were released in the case where 45 people were massacred at Atatürk Airport," has caused distortions.

The news in question creates a perception in the public as if "the perpetrators of the terrorist attack have been released."

However, the 6 defendants in question have been in detention for 8 years and are not the perpetrators of the attack. These individuals are being tried for crimes such as membership in an organization and financing of the organization. It has been decided to release them as there is a possibility that the time they have spent in detention will cover the sentences to be given for the crimes attributed to the 6 defendants.

Do not give credence to baseless claims.

STATEMENT BASED ON ANADOLU AGENCY'S REPORT

Journalist Alican Uludağ made a new post after the Center for Combating Disinformation denied the news, stating that the public was being misled.

Uludağ, in his post referring to a report by Anadolu Agency, stated the following:

My report is true to the end. Unfortunately, the Center for Combating Disinformation is misleading the public. It is giving false information openly. 5 of the released defendants were tried for direct complicity in the massacre and received 46 aggravated life sentences each for the death of 45 people and for violating the Constitution. Here, look, the state agency's report from that time is attached. These 5 people were not sentenced for membership. The names and sentences of the 5 released defendants are clearly written in the A.A. report.
