Warning of precipitation and storms across the country on February 28: Which regions are at risk?
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, precipitation and strong winds will affect the northern, central, and eastern regions of the country. Warnings for snow, rain, and storms have been issued, with particular caution advised for the Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia regions.
Many regions of Turkey will remain under the influence of rainy and cold weather on February 28. According to the latest forecasts from meteorological experts, rainy weather is expected from the northeast of Marmara to the east of Central Anatolia, particularly along the Black Sea line and in the north and east of Eastern Anatolia. Similar precipitation will also manifest in the south of Batman and Siirt, and the eastern districts of Mardin.
In the morning hours, in addition to heavy rainfall in the vicinity of Samsun and Ordu, rain will occur in coastal areas, while sleet and snowfall will appear in high and inland areas. Meteorological authorities state that the wind will blow from the north on the Black Sea coast and may occasionally reach storm levels (40-70 kilometers per hour).
Air temperatures, which will remain below seasonal norms, will increase the risk of icing and frost, especially in Central and Eastern Anatolia. The wind will generally blow from the north, and from the south in the east of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia. Strong winds and storms are forecast for the Black Sea coast.
WARNING ISSUED
The public is urged to be cautious regarding risks such as transportation disruptions, landslides, icing in high areas, avalanche risks, and flooding in regions like Samsun and Ordu, where heavy rainfall will be effective. Similarly, a warning has been issued against strong winds on the Central and Eastern Black Sea coasts. It was stated that difficulties in transportation may be experienced due to the storm.
Citizens need to act with caution against dangers such as avalanches and snowmelt in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and in sloping areas with high snow depth in Eastern Anatolia.
WEATHER BY REGION
In the Marmara Region, rain is expected in the northeast, with sleet and occasional snow in the highlands. While the northern and eastern districts of Istanbul will receive precipitation, intermittent rain and sleet in the highlands are forecast for Kocaeli.
In the Aegean Region, it will generally be cloudy, with occasional icing and frost possible in inland areas. Izmir will be partly cloudy at 13°C, while a cool climate will prevail in Afyonkarahisar at 4°C.
Very cloudy weather is expected throughout the Mediterranean. Icing may occur in the inland parts of the Western Mediterranean; Antalya is among the warmest provinces in the region at 18°C.
While the Central Anatolia Region will be quite cloudy, snowfall stands out, especially in the east. Temperatures will drop to 1°C in Kayseri, while they will hover around 7°C in Ankara.
In the Black Sea, precipitation is at the forefront. Intermittent rain and sleet are expected in the Western Black Sea, with strong winds in coastal areas. Samsun and its surroundings will receive very heavy rainfall at times during the morning hours. In the inland areas, the risk of snow and frost will be on the agenda.
In Eastern Anatolia, cold and snowy weather prevails. As temperatures drop to -2°C in Erzurum and Kars, the risk of icing and avalanches continues in the region.
In Southeastern Anatolia, rain and sleet are expected in the south of Batman and Siirt and the east of Mardin, with snow expected in the highlands. Cloudy weather will continue in Diyarbakir and Gaziantep.
Meteorology has warned that cold and rainy weather may continue in the coming days. It is recommended that those who will travel follow local weather reports before setting out and pay attention to the warnings.
