Warning to music channels from RTÜK President: The boundaries of morality and decency...

RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin, in a statement on his social media account, claimed that reports from monitoring experts indicate that television channels broadcasting music videos in Turkey have "crossed the boundaries of morality and decency."

Stating that it has been determined that music channels use "excessive sexual content" in the video clips they broadcast and that images containing nudity appear "frequently" on these channels, Şahin noted that it has also been determined that radio channels broadcasting music frequently play songs containing slang and profanity.

Şahin stated the following:

"It is imperative that the relevant broadcasters urgently address the aforementioned content, which is contrary to our traditions and conflicts with our religious, social, and cultural values, within their own mechanisms and bring them into compliance with the broadcasting principles set forth in our Law No. 6112. Otherwise, the authority of our Supreme Council within the framework of the law is well-known. It is extremely important that this warning we have issued be taken into consideration with sensitivity, and that music videos that do not align with our national and spiritual values be meticulously reviewed accordingly."
