Heval Pekgöz, a second-year student at Marmara University Faculty of Pharmacy, suffered cardiac arrest during the anesthesia phase of a private hospital surgery for rhinoplasty and nasal concha reduction. She passed away after a 20-day struggle for life. The family has taken legal action, holding the hospital and doctors responsible for their daughter's death due to negligence.
Pekgöz, a second-year student at Marmara University Faculty of Pharmacy, went to a private hospital in Maltepe to have both her nasal concha removed and to undergo a rhinoplasty operation. The death of the young woman, whose heart stopped during the anesthesia phase and who fought for her life for 20 days, has caused a major stir, and the family has taken the matter to court.
According to the report by Deniz Tüysüz from NTV, father Ferhat Pekgöz stated that their daughter's heart stopped after anesthesia, but they were told that her condition was very good. He explained that they were first taken to a hospital in Kurtköy as a precaution, and then directed to another branch because no 112 emergency record had been opened.
Father Pekgöz said that they had to change 3 hospitals within the same day and that their daughter lost her life due to negligence.
Mother Özlem Pekgöz also explained that she wanted to see her daughter in intensive care but was not allowed, and that her eyes were open while she was on the stretcher and she was not intubated.
The Pekgöz family, who lost their daughter on August 30, filed a criminal complaint against the hospital and the responsible doctors.
