Were 72 positions distributed to relatives? Striking allegations against AKP-run municipality

CHP Iğdır Provincial Chair Nizamettin Ada, in a statement regarding the AKP-run Tuzluca Municipality, alleged that Mayor Ahmet Sait Sadrettin Türkan hired a total of 72 people from his relatives and close circle at the municipality. Ada argued that these hires were not based on merit.

CHP Tuzluca District Chair Temel Sardoğan also attended the press conference. The statement noted that the alleged hirings have damaged the public conscience and demanded that the relevant institutions be called to duty.

ALLEGATION THAT "PUBLIC POSITIONS WERE ALLOCATED TO RELATIVES"

Evaluating the hirings, Ada claimed that the positions created at Tuzluca Municipality were distributed by disregarding the law, the principle of equality, and the public interest. Ada alleged that the positions were given to family members, political associates, and the relatives of commission members.

The statement also raised the claim that the municipality has lost its status as a public institution and has been turned into a family business. Ada alleged that the brother and some cousins of the Municipal Clerk Ahmet Gümüştekin, and the nephew of the Financial Services Manager Mirze Urkun, were hired into the municipal staff. Furthermore, it was alleged that individuals sharing the same surnames as commission members were also placed in jobs without examinations.

Ada argued that these practices are contrary to the Turkish Penal Code and the principle of equality in the Constitution. He stated that the allegations should be evaluated within the scope of abuse of office and the obstruction of the right to enter public service.

CALL FOR INVESTIGATION FROM CHP

In the continuation of the statement, it was noted that the practices alleged to have occurred at Tuzluca Municipality must be investigated. Speaking on behalf of the CHP Iğdır Provincial Organization, Ada emphasized that public institutions cannot be allocated for the use of specific individuals or groups.

MESSAGE THAT "WE WILL FOLLOW UP"

It was stated that the CHP Iğdır Provincial Organization will follow up on the alleged illegalities. The statement emphasized that Tuzluca Municipality is not the private domain of any individual or group and must be managed in line with the public interest.
