What did İmamoğlu say to CHP deputies in the closed-door meeting?

The Republican People's Party (CHP), which has initiated the process of determining its presidential candidate, will head to a primary election on March 23.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will participate in the highly anticipated primary as the sole candidate.

Before attending the CHP's primary election meeting the other day, İmamoğlu held a closed-door meeting with CHP leader Özgür Özel and members of parliament.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, İmamoğlu thanked the entire parliamentary group for their support during the meeting. It was reported that İmamoğlu, who also thanked the deputies who did not sign for his candidacy in the primary, stated, “The parliamentary group performed a historic duty. Whether you voted or not, you showed democratic maturity. I thank you for this.”

It was noted that İmamoğlu, who requested support from the deputies to increase participation in the primary, said, “This struggle is an important struggle. Therefore, your support is very important. This primary is not a symbolic election. Cooperation with the organization to increase participation in your respective areas is crucial.”

EVEN THOSE WHO WERE OFFENDED GAVE THEIR SUPPORT

Some deputies who commented on İmamoğlu's speech stated, “Ekrem Bey's speech to the group received applause and was well-received. Even those who were previously offended by him supported him. In a sense, it was like a reconciliation speech with the group. From now on, even the friends who criticized the primary will work without any issues.”

It was also stated that Özel made reminders to the deputies regarding the primary election process during the meeting, and reiterated his message regarding ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş, saying, “We will not spoil the image our two mayors have presented together.”

ALL DEPUTIES ASSIGNED FOR THE PRIMARY ELECTION

Furthermore, it was learned that all deputies have been assigned to different provinces to increase participation in the primary until March 23. In this context, it was stated that deputies without specific duties in Parliament will travel to different provinces to mobilize the party organization and work to ensure that members go to the polls on election day.
