What do voters expect from a new party? Survey results revealed

The crisis that began within the CHP following the court decision regarding Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's chairmanship continues.

While the absolute nullity administration has begun a move to purge figures close to the elected Chairman Özgür Özel within the party, allegations that Özel and his administration might form a new party remain on the agenda.

Nefes columnist Nevşin Mengü brought the results of public opinion research regarding the aforementioned new party to her column.

Stating that she sees a common trend in the data from different research companies, Mengü made the following assessment:

"I had the opportunity to examine some survey results, both those released to the public and those that were not. I will not name the companies because some prefer to share their results only with their subscribers. However, the general trend I see is as follows: Among the entire voter base—opposition, government, and others—those who say 'I would vote for a new party' and those who say 'I would not' are neck-and-neck. This indicates that the opposition is head-to-head with the government."

"CENTER-RIGHT" DEMAND REPORTED TO BE LOW

Mengü also evaluated the responses given to the question posed to voters in the surveys: "What should the party's line be?" Stating that the majority of voters do not want the new party to be positioned on the center-right, Mengü used the following expressions:

"When we look at the answers to the question 'What should the party's line be?', we see that the rate of those saying 'It should be center-right' is very low. In the voter's perception, the AKP is likely the center-right itself. The right is now perceived along this line. The thought is, 'There is no need for a new AKP'."

VOTER EXPECTATION IS THE UNIFICATION OF THE OPPOSITION

Mengü stated that the survey results also point to the voters' expectations from a new political formation. Expressing that it is expected for the new party to create a center that can bring the opposition together, Mengü concluded her assessment with these words:

"The voters' demand is for the new party to be able to unite the entire opposition. In other words, the voter is actually demanding a new center. The crushing conditions of the implemented economic policy are stirring the voters' more egalitarian, social democratic, and developmentalist instincts."
