WHAT DOES 'SİNE-İ MİLLET' MEAN?

Returning to the bosom of the nation (sine-i millete dönmek) is a term in Turkish political history that means leaving the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), which is considered to have lost its legitimacy, and continuing politics among the people.

KEMAL KILIÇDAROĞLU'S STATEMENT

In his statement, former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said:

''The only way to get rid of the Palace and its useful apparatuses is: Sine-i Millet (returning to the bosom of the nation).

We do not accept any lawlessness or the absurdity of appointed trustees (kayyum) imposed on a politician elected by the rightful votes of the people.''

HOW IS IT IMPLEMENTED?

The Constitution requires the approval of the General Assembly of the TBMM for the decision of 'sine-i millet' to be implemented. Article 84 of the Constitution stipulates that the resignations of members of parliament must be accepted by the General Assembly. The article states: 'The termination of the membership of a resigning deputy is decided by the General Assembly of the TBMM after the validity of the resignation is determined by the Presidential Council of the TBMM.'
