New forecasts have been released for the long-awaited snowfall in Istanbul, with experts reporting that temperatures will drop significantly starting next week. Although it was noted that the cold air coming from the Balkans is passing by Turkey, it was stated that temperatures are expected to decline rapidly following the recent period where they remained above seasonal norms.
FIRST SNOW MAY BE SEEN BETWEEN JANUARY 14–19
According to assessments by AKOM and meteorology experts, the probability of sleet in Istanbul has increased between January 14 and 19. It was noted that sleet is more likely in coastal areas.
EXPECTATION FOR EFFECTIVE SNOWFALL POINTS TO EARLY FEBRUARY
It was reported that effective snowfall in the city center could be expected on February 5–6. According to the forecasts, it is estimated that a snow cover of 1–5 centimeters could form in central districts, and 10–20 centimeters in higher and western areas.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP RAPIDLY
In the latest data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, it was reported that temperatures across Turkey will decrease noticeably throughout the week.
